What drew you to the field of Healthcare originally?

I started my career in fashion merchandising, but I quickly discovered my true passion was making a positive impact by helping others when they needed it most.  Throughout the years, I have enjoyed working at all different levels of care within the continuum.  My current role on the corporate management team at CNS has allowed me to apply the skills from prior roles to advocate on a broader scale for patients to receive the rehabilitation they need.

What about this work felt meaningful or compelled to you at the time?

When I began my career in healthcare, I quickly noticed a widespread misunderstanding about the role of social workers within the healthcare system. This realization motivated me to become more involved, and I soon discovered how much I enjoyed collaborating with families, patients, and other healthcare professionals to advocate for individuals receiving care. I have never hesitated to engage in challenging conversations with families about the difficult next steps in their healthcare journeys, understanding that these moments are crucial for both the patients and their loved ones.

As my career progressed, I broadened my scope of practice by working alongside our CNS liaison team in Texas and California. This experience enabled me to connect not only with patients already within our medical system, but also with those who had been displaced or had not received the appropriate care when they needed it most. These opportunities reinforced my commitment to ensuring that every individual has access to the support and rehabilitation they deserve.

Throughout my journey, I have become increasingly convinced that women’s nurturing qualities can have a profoundly positive impact on healthcare careers. In my experience, fostering teamwork and cultivating compassionate workplaces greatly enhances the professional environment, benefiting both staff and the patients we serve.

When you first entered healthcare, what surprised you most…something you expected to be harder or easier or something you simply didn’t anticipate?

I was genuinely surprised by the tremendous responsibility I assumed as a hospital social worker—realizing that my advocacy and guidance could truly shape someone’s life in meaningful ways.

I have consistently been interested in the rehabilitation sector of healthcare and firmly believe that all individuals should have access to opportunities for improving their well-being. Over the course of my career, I have found it highly rewarding to build effective teams and observe dedicated professionals shaping a brighter future for our health care system.

A quote reads: "WHAT'S GUIDING YOU? In healthcare, encouraging others and trusting them to solve their own challenges is one of the most valuable gifts you can offer an employee.

What are five things guiding you right now-the priorities, boundaries, values or practices you actively protect in this season of your career so you can continue doing meaningful work? (These might include things like your energy, time, values, curiosity, relationships, confidence, well-being etc.)

Early in my career, I focused on establishing a solid professional foundation.  As I gained experience, I recognized the significance of maintaining my well-being through regular exercises like walking, strength training, or yoga to manage stress as I continued to develop in my career.

Every day, I make a conscious effort to listen more and speak less. I consistently remind myself to pause and think before responding to important conversations or questions. Encouraging others and trusting them to solve their own challenges is, in my view, one of the most valuable gifts you can offer an employee. Finally, I limit after-hours communication to urgent issues, ensuring that I stay present both at work and in my personal life.

What is one piece of advice you would offer to women working in healthcare, or those considering a career in healthcare?

Those in healthcare have a unique ability to impact lives, but the work can be emotionally exhausting. It’s important to find someone to talk to—whether you’re in direct patient care or leadership—and not hesitate to seek counseling. Staying mentally and physically healthy is crucial; recognizing when you need support and reaching out are signs of strength.
