The Alarming Statistics Behind Executive Burnout
There’s a quiet crisis playout out behind boardroom doors.
Recent research shows:
- 56% of executives report being burned out
- Nearly half of leadership teams have lost top talent due to chronic fatigue and disengagement
- Women in leadership are disproportionately affected, especially those holding the “only” seat at the table
These findings come from the 2024 Women @ Work report by Deloitte, which continues to track the evolving workplace experiences of women globally.
And yet…we rarely talk about it.
Not in real terms. Not without shame.
Why Visibility, Not Just Talent, Shapes Leadership Paths
Here’s the truth: Burnout isn’t about weakness. It’s about culture.
And culture is a leadership responsibility.
What I see in my work is this:
- Women doing it all…until there’s nothing left
- Carrying the weight of both work and home
- Trying to thrive in systems that were never built for their sustainability
It’s not enough to tell executive women to “practice self-care” or “manage their time better.”
The Questions Every Burned-Out Leader Should Ask
We need to talk about:
- Boundaries without guilt
- Delegation without fear of judgement
- Saying no to what drains and yes to what matters
And we need to ask better questions:
- Are you being celebrated for burnout-inducing behaviors?
- Is your exhaustion being mistaken for excellence?
- What version of “success” are you chasing…and who defined it?
Burnout isn’t solved with bubble baths and breathing exercises. It requires a full-body leadership reset.
How to Advocate for Yourself and Your Next Step Up
Inside my coaching and Mastermind experiences, we name what’s really driving burnout…and rebuild leadership habits that don’t come at the cost of personal well-being.
Because resilience isn’t just about the ability to bounce back.
It’s the right to build a career that doesn’t break you in the first place.
Let’s normalize a new kind of leadership:
- Not just high-achieving, but human
- Not just effective, but energized
- Not just successful, but sustainable
Your energy is not a renewable resource unless you make it one.
Let’s lead like it.
